TARGET AUDIENCE :

This course enables those students with only a basic knowledge of computers and computing, to become familiar with the hardware and software of modern technology. The course will deal in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the latest Personal Computers (PC). The student will gain the competence to connect the necessary hardware to form a stand-alone PC, and to load relevant software onto the system subject to the users requirements.

TEACHING APPROACH :

The teaching approach contains a mix of lectures & practical work. The teaching is by interactive presentation and using a PC system unit for demonstrations, coupled with frequent hands-on exercises throughout the course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES :

The course has been designed to enable students to unpack, prepare, connect together, power up and configure a basic microcomputer system comprising disk drive, printer, VDU, keyboard and main system unit. Each student will be expected to install consumable materials and operating system software, configure and check satisfactory operation; perform software diagnostic checks and use these together with multimeters and oscilloscopes to locate and replace faulty field replaceable units and components.
