Assessment Objectives

Create and format web pages following a house style

  • Create and define web pages
    Understand how to create web pages, the basic sections of a web page and their uses (HTML, HEAD, BODY)
  • Use META tags to describe page content
    Understand the purpose and use of the TITLE and META tags (including author, keywords, description
  • Format text, links and background using BODY tag
    Understand the use of the BODY tag in setting default formatting for body text and link colour and for setting both background colour and a background image.
  • Use standard content
    Appreciate the efficiency of standard repetitive content.

Use and format text, images and tables

  • Insert text and images
    Identify common file formats used for source text and images (.txt, .gif, .jpg)
  • Set image attributes
    Understand the use and effect of image attributes (border, alt, height, width, align)
  • Use additional text formatting and special characters
    Understand the following range of text formatting: Alignment (left, right, centre), emphasis (bold, italic), lists (ordered, unordered), font size (absolute and relative), font face (serif/sans serif), font colour (hexadecimal)
  • Insert table
  • Set table dimensions
  • Set table and cell alignment
    Understand how to create tables, and to set the dimensions (table and column widths, absolute and relative) and alignment (horizontal and vertical) of a table and of its cells

Use and format an interactive form

  • Set METHOD and ACTION
    Understand the use of the FORM tag and how to set the METHOD and ACTION
  • Use common input types
  • Set input attributes
  • Test form
    Understand how to create basic form elements (radio buttons, checkboxes, text fields, submit and reset buttons) and how to set their various attributes, eg name and value

Link pages to create web site

  • Use images and text as anchors for hyperlinks
  • Use hyperlinks to external sites
  • Use hyperlinks to local pages
  • Use e-mail link
    Understand the use of different types of hyperlinks (external, e-mail, local)
    Understand the use of named anchors within a page as a navigation tool
    Appreciate the need to test links and the advantages of a site map in constructing a web site
